The beginning of spring is a prominent celebration that spans cultures and time. This season symbolises hope, nature, the growth of plants, and the birth of baby animals.
Australians consider the first day of September to be the start of spring. However, some cultures celebrate spring on the equinox (when the sun crosses Earth's equator), which is later in September.
When children learn about spring and other seasons they gain respect for nature (2.4). This is a learning outcome in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).
Learning experiences
- Make the most of the warming weather. Play outdoors in nature and observe the changes in weather, animals and plants.
