Children develop a range of learning and thinking skills and processes such as problem-solving, inquiry, experimentation, hypothesising, researching and investigating
Early childhood educators can integrate all areas of STEM and STEAM into their program, including science, technology, engineering, mathematics and the arts.
Learning experiences
- Provide natural materials, processed materials and loose parts, for children to explore and experiment with.
- Encourage children to observe their natural environment to identify problems and ask questions. Teach them how to find answers by researching and conducting experiments.
- Teach inquiry by starting a project on a unique topic. What are your children interested in? Provide access to research tools, like books, computers and experts within the local community.
- Set up sensory experiences for children of all ages, including preschoolers. Stimulate the five senses and multiple senses at once.
- Make experimental art. Don't worry about the end product. Take photos of the process. Children don't need “something” to take home.
