Children respond to diversity with respect
Children respond to diversity with respect when they are taught to appreciate and value differences in culture, race, and experiences. Early childhood educators can foster an environment where diverse perspectives are celebrated. They can also promote understanding and empathy.
Encouraging open conversations and modelling inclusive behaviour helps children develop respect for unique backgrounds and viewpoints.
Learning provisions
- Start conversations about diversity, by discussing similarities and differences. Explain how similarities can give people a sense of belonging, but differences make the world more interesting. We can learn so much from people who live and think differently from us.
- Explore all corners of Google Earth or Google Maps. What interesting places can you discover? What do the landscapes and houses look like? How can different people live happily together on the planet Earth?
