Children use digital technologies and media to access information, investigate ideas and represent their thinking
The Early Years Learning Framework asks early childhood professionals to acknowledge that “technologies are a feature of children’s lives and, as such, will be a feature of their imaginative and investigative play”.
Educators can have confidence in children to use technology correctly and appropriately. Teach them the required skills and safety practices, but also give them independence and a sense of agency.
Learning experiences
- Provide children with a range of technologies, for use in the real world and in their dramatic play.
- Teach children how to use digital technologies to access information, research, solve problems and communicate.
- Encourage children to take photos of their world using a camera, phone or tablet.
- Integrate technology into all areas of the curriculum. Explore the possibilities with STEM and STEAM.
