Children are aware of and develop strategies to support their own mental and physical health and personal safety
Educators can talk to children about the things their bodies need, including sleep, food, hygiene, dental care, relaxation, and safety and security. Implement daily routines and practices that promote positive health and self-care.
Learning experiences
- Help children identify and communicate their needs and emotions, remembering there are many styles of communication and self-expression (e.g. gestures, baby sign language, facial expressions, art projects).
- Help children identify and talk to trusted adults in their family and community.
- Talk to children about consent and physical boundaries. Explain the difference between “good” and “bad” touches.
- Introduce age-appropriate rules relating to e-safety, for children who are using internet technologies.
- Respect diversity, remembering that each child has their own needs and preferences.
